Ars Art Atelier – Ahead of the second concert of new symphony orchestra music for babies and toddlers – 7 June 2023

At the Atelier, we are back to following the creation of new music and sound art for the youngest, in the framework of the B-AIR project where artists and renowned international experts work in close collaboration to create works for babies, toddlers and vulnerable groups. After the successful January performances of So Quiet by Larisa Vrhunc, dedicated to these very young listeners, we will gather some reactions to the work and its presentation, and then turn our attention to two brand new works to be performed in a similar format next week, Defiance of the Glorious Children by Svetlana Maraš and Perpetuum mobile II by Matej Bonin. They will be performed by the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Steven Loy, on Thursday 15 June in Studio 26 of Radio Slovenia.

Before the performance of the project Sense-S by the composer Petra Strahovnik, dedicated to the youngest listeners, we will present the background and creative process of this composition. It will be performed at two concerts of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra with conductor and contemporary music expert Steven Loy, in Studio 26 of Radio Slovenia this Saturday, 7 October – at a concert for children and caretakers at 5 pm, and at an evening concert for the general public.

Ars Art Atelier – Music production within the B-AIR project – 29 November 2023

The conclusion of the year also marks the end of the B-AIR project, a research and artistic project of Radio Slovenia and a group of international partners, which explored a range of topics, including in particular the perception of sound in the earliest stages of human development, the potentials, limits and expanding boundaries of music and sound art for babies and toddlers, but also the importance of music and sonority in the circle of human life, especially in the lives of remote, neglected, vulnerable groups in society. In our Ars Art Atelier we have already followed in detail the creation of four new symphonic works for babies and toddlers, and this time we will be looking in depth at the productions created for the Global SpecifiCity Festival and the works commissioned by the partner organisations of the project network.

We will present the duo Merzouga, comprised of Eva Poepplein and Janko Hanushevsky; Tomaž Rauch and his work Cradling the World; and Aernoudt Jacobs' project What Dogs Hear with vocalists Ina Puntar, Tea Vidmar, Žiga Jenko and Tisa Neža Herlec. We will also listen to works commissioned by Serbian Radio 3, Emerging – the Consciousness by Milenija Ristić and the Baby Blues LP by the duo, as well as the composition Symphony of the Siege by Haris Sahačić, commissioned by Burch International University in Sarajevo.
