On Monday, 28 August 2023, a charge-free movement and vocal improvisation workshop for people with Parkinson's disease and their relatives took place in Maribor, at the premises of the Trepetlika Association. It was led by Jaka Škapin, artist, musician and vocal-musical improvisation mentor, and co-facilitated by three professional dancers and the psychologist Ana Kuder.
The workshop was created for people with Parkinson's disease and their families, and was suitable for everyone regardless of previous dance or music experience. During the workshop, participants explored the possibility of using improvisation to maintain and improve the vitality of the vocal cords as one of the body's muscles, and choreographically build physical expressiveness and mobility as a creative activity for all. The approach to delivering the workshop followed the guidelines of the Dancing with Parkinson's programme, which combines movement on multiple anatomical levels with live music, creative thinking , multi-tasking, cognitive challenges and the introduction of imaginative and playful interpretive movement.
