In conversation with Alen Jelen, editor of the radio's fiction program, directress Irena Glonar and sound designer Jure Culiberg will present the creative process leading up to the premiere of a radio play. Drawing on decades of experience in making radio plays for children, they will be shedding light on the specificities of children's radio content, sharing their own process of creating for the youngest listeners.
JURE CULIBERG has spent his professional life with Radio Slovenia, where he began working in 1970 as a sound designer. He has designed many broadcasts, combining his electrical engineering knowledge with his musical training; participating in sports broadcasts, concert, music and literary shows, live broadcasts and celebrations, while most creatively applying his complex know-how to the production of radio plays. He has co-created 556. With precision and sensitivity, he is involved in many stages of the creative process: reading text, co-designing the sound script, working with actors, discovering the right effects, and composing music into the sound image of the play.
IRENA GLONAR graduated from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana, Department of Film and TV Directing. Her creative work at Radio Slovenia spans four decades. She has written two radio plays, adapted 27, and directed 270. Radio plays for children are her particular field of engagement. For these she has won a number of awards, including the grand prize at the Prix Ex Aequo in Bratislava in 2007 for the first part of the children's series Hektor by Dim Zupan, adapted by her. In 2002, she received an Honorary Charter for her work, and in 2013 the Lifetime Achievement Award of RTV Slovenia.
ALEN JELEN (1970) graduated from AGRFT in dramaturgy and theatre and radio directing. He is employed full-time as a drama director and editor at the Radio Slovenia Fiction Program Editorial Office. He started his radio career as a host at Radio Koper. Alen Jelen also directs in Slovenian theatres. For his theatre and radio directing he received the 2010 "Ivy Wreath", a professional award from the Slovenian Association of Dramatic Artists. His plays were featured at numerous international media festivals, where he has also received awards and prizes.
